Tis' the season!!! Here's a great recipe for sugar cookies to make with your kids. Don't forget Santa! :) These are great for any holiday... not just Christmas!
Recipe:
*Dough must chill in the fridge for at least one hour before baking. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream together:
1 C. Margarine (softened)
1 1/2 C. Sugar
Add:
3 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
Add dry ingredients:
2 tsp. Baking Powders
1 tsp. Baking Soda
Add half at a time - alternating between the two:
1 C. Buttermilk
4 1/4 C. Flour
-- I add half the buttermilk and then half the flour. Then I add the remaining buttermilk and then remaining flour. --
*When you go to roll out this dough it will be quite soft and sticky. I make sure I flour my counter really well and then I take half of the dough and form it into a blob ball. I place the dough-blob ball on my floured counter top and then sprinkle the dough ball with flour and roll it around so that the surface of the dough ball has a slight coating of flour. I also flour my rolling pin. Then softly roll the dough out - I keep it pretty thick for the cookies (about 1/2"). You can keep sprinkling flour on the dough if it continues to stick. Make sure you put the remaining dough back into the fridge to keep chilled while you're working with the first half on your counter. I dip my cookie cutters in a little flour before I place them on the dough as well. Cut out fun shapes like snowmen, Santa, trees, stars, etc. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Frost and decorate once cooled and enjoy!
